The management of the end of life is a subject in which social and cultural determinants play a fundamental role. The possibility of specifying one's wishes concerning one's end of life is therefore the result of various legislative processes, the beginnings of which in some countries go back more than a century. In France, the implementation of a citizens' convention on the end of life makes it possible to review the legal framework that has been built up since 2005 and the effectiveness of advance directives in the light of current case law and the applicable regime.
